International Scouting

PaulscoutI am an Eagle Scout.  Growing up scouting provided me with opportunities to travel and camp.  My first jobs teaching swimming, life-guarding and teaching sailing were the result of skills I learned in scouts.

My scout master Willard was a master outdoors-man.  He spent his limited time helping teach me how to enjoy the great outdoors.  He also gave me first aide skills.  I used CPR to help save a neighbor and when his wife and daughter held a dinner in my honor--I received the highest thanks I could ever be given.

At Willard's funeral I realized I wanted to be more like him and less like some of the business people I knew and I decided it was time to give back.

If you would like to read how scouting and leadership go together download my article Leadership from Theory to Action or Randy Pennington's excellent book on the Scout Promise and Leadership...On My Honor.
